Enzymes

The biggest takeaway from the Young Living Essential Oils (YLEO) 2011 convention for me was enzymes and how important they are to your well-being.  Below are my notes from the convention.

Our bodies create over 3,000 different kinds of enzymes.  We should have millions of enzymes when we are healthy.  When our enzyme reserves start to diminish, we have bi-polar, cold, flu, arthritis, allergies, autism, Parkinson's, inflammation, cancer, digestive problems, heart disease, hormone deficiencies, stroke, headaches, cancer, and autism.

Enzymes are produced by living organisms.  They contain amino acids.  Enzymes are the catalysts that create many essential biochemical reactions.  They facilitate chemical reactions in the body very quickly.  Without enzymes, some metabolic processes would happen very slowly or not at all.  Every daily biochemical function in the body requires enzymes to facilitate the building of compounds from the body's raw materials, transport elements throughout the body, break down substances such as food, and eliminate toxins and chemical waste in the body.  Enzymes deliver nutrients to the body in order to make use of those food elements.  Enzymes need minerals and vitamins to function.  Enzymes free minerals, vitamins, proteins, and hormones to engage in body functions.  Enzymes play a major role in every metabolic process in the body from glandular function and support to hormone productions and toxic waste disposal.

Enzyme production decreases in the absence of live food as well as disease, stress, aging, and petrochemicals.  The inhibitors are aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen, antibiotics, cleaning solvents, household cleaners, microwave radiations and heat over 120 degrees.  Headaches are caused by an enzyme deficiency and if you take aspirin or ibuprofen, you are inhibiting enzyme production.  Allergies are a by-product of enzyme deficiency.  Arthritis is not a disease, it is an allergy (quote from Gary Young).  You can't create a hormone without a protein and you can't create a protein without an enzyme.  Enzyme deficiency causes nightmares and restless leg syndrome.  People can be allergic to phenols because of enzyme deficiency and some oils have high phenols.

When you fast, you don't deplete enzymes.  When you eat dead food (microwave), you deplete enzymes, by using the ones in your reserve.  Estrogen helps the skin.  If you are a vegetarian, you may have a lack of estrogen and need to supplement it with lipase.  Enzymes facilitate digestion and assimilation.  Every food has enzymes and carrots are very high in natural enzymes.  Amylase is in breast milk and if you didn't get enough as an infant, you will have allergies.

After digestion is completed, enzymes will break down.  They will pass into the blood stream as amino acids.  They become building blocks in the body.  Protease, amylase, and other enzymes will enter the blood stream to clean out foreign materials such as free radicals and potential allergens, which create gluten intolerance and other allergies.  Enzymes make their way back to the liver and pancreas and are used again.

What can enzymes do for us?
- Clean clogged arteries of plaque
- Empty stomach of undigested fat
- Prevent stroke and heart attack
- Enzymes eliminate old fat and proteins left deposited from years causing cariovascular problems
- Protease reduces inflammation processes and enhances circulation and the immune system by improving and increasing the surface area of the red blood cells, allowing it to transport more oxygen
- Enzymes are effective in weight regulation - overweight people are lacking in lipase
- Enzymes prevent allergies and degeneration such as: gluten and lactose intolerance, leaky gut, acid reflux, and heart burn, environmental allergens, colds, coughs, flu, degenerative disease
- Help clear the body of undigested proteins and meat: undigested starches, sugars, and carbs will ferment fats, turning them rancid.  Toxins create a host for disease such as candida, leaky gut, brain fog, fatigue, hypoglycemia, depressions, allergies, and fibromyalgia.
- You heal faster with enzymes, it facilitates circulation and oxygen
- Enzymes stimulate the brain, alertness, and memory attention

The FDA has approved enzyme therapies for treating cancer, cardiovascular disease, removal of dead tissue, gastrointestinal conditions, pancreatic conditions, and removal of toxic substances from blood.

What does this all mean for us?  Build up your enzyme reserves if you don't want allergies or cancer.  The enzymes break down the protein shell of cancer cells.  It might take up to 2-3 years to build up the reserves.  Clean the liver and increase the enzymes to help with diseases.  Essential oils have enzymatic activity and when you use essential oils, you are stimulating enzyme production in your body.
